Night Sun Headpiece - design and hand embroidery by Ksenia Semirova

The contemporary interpretation of traditional Russian headpiece

Night Sun Headpiece is a contemporary rendition of the traditional Russian Kokoshnik, featuring an enlarged solar motif. Handcrafted with pearl embroidery, hand-dyed cotton cords, soutache, pearls, glass beads, and French wire. Reflecting Slavic pre-Christian history, it explores the pagan cult of the Sun, symbolizing transformation and various states of the Sun, including the nocturnal or subterranean aspects.
