Grasshopper Modeling
There were three main tasks for this project: first, to learn entirely new soft – Grasshopper, second, to make a unique structure and apply it to some kind of product, and finally, to print out the product with a 3D printer.
The structure, or better to say “type of setting for gemstones was inspired by Art Deco and the natural minerals. Utilizing the Image sampler function and different images of minerals, it is easy to create a unique surface pattern.
The developed structure was applied to several jewelry items modeled in Rhinoceros and Grasshopper Peacock plugin.
All models, including the structure sample, were 3D-printed with different types of materials – ABS and PLA plastics. The experiments showed that it is hard to print out fully-scale jewelry with these materials. So, one sample was printed oversized to present the structure in detail.
