Design-Nation South: Materialised at The Regency Town House, Private View

Yesterday evening, 17 October 2025, the Private View of Design-Nation South Materialised took place at The Regency Town House in Brighton. The exhibition brings together eighteen members of Design-Nation South, presenting a wide range of contemporary craft and design within the building’s distinctive Regency setting.

The event gathered artists, collectors, and local professionals, including Andrew Tanner, Head of Design at Habitat and Ambassador for Design-Nation; David Kemp, architect; and David Gorrod, Director of Seen PR, alongside tutors and professors from the University of Brighton. The evening provided an opportunity for guests to meet the exhibiting makers and discuss their ideas, materials, and processes.

Textile artist Ksenia Semirova presents Winter Fairytales — a display featuring hand-embroidered tiaras, necklaces, and festive ornaments. Each piece reinterprets the medieval technique of pearl setting, a historic form of embroidery that once adorned garments, accessories, and ceremonial textiles. In this work, the traditional approach is adapted for contemporary design, balancing historical craftsmanship with a modern sense of composition and detail.

Design-Nation South Materialised showcases the work of a collective of professional designers and makers working across textiles, ceramics, metalwork, lighting, and mixed media. Together, the exhibitors highlight how material-led practices continue to shape current directions in British craft and design.

The exhibition runs 15–26 October 2025, open daily from 11 am to 5 pm (closing 4 pm on Sunday 26 October) at The Regency Town House, 13 Brunswick Square, Brighton.
