From January, I will be offering private 1:1 Lunéville (tambour) embroidery tuition in central London, based in the Pimlico / Victoria area.
This new format is designed for people who want focused, uninterrupted time with the technique — whether they are encountering Lunéville embroidery for the first time or looking to understand it properly outside a group or academic setting.
Why London, and why now
Until now, my teaching has been delivered online or in limited formats.
Opening this London-based option allows for a different kind of learning.
From January, this private tuition will be available by appointment, with limited availability to keep the focus and quality consistent.
If you’re considering learning Lunéville embroidery in a serious, focused way, this format is designed to give you exactly that.
What this tuition is — and what it isn’t
This is not a casual taster or a social workshop.
Private tuition is an intensive, hands-on working session, where the time is fully dedicated to practice.
You’ll be stitching throughout the day, working directly with the tambour hook, learning how the stitch behaves on fabric, how tension changes, and how materials respond in real use. There is no fixed script: the pace is steady, practical, and focused on doing.
Because this is a one-to-one format, questions are addressed as they arise — not postponed, and not simplified for a group.
What you’ll work on
We begin with the traditional tambour chain stitch. This stage is essential: it allows you to understand how the hook moves, how the stitch is formed, and how to control direction and rhythm.
From there, the technique is applied to a monogram design, using Lunéville methods to introduce beads and sequins. The monogram is chosen deliberately: lettering provides clear structure, changes of direction, and enough complexity to explore the technique in a meaningful way within a limited time.
The goal is not speed, but control and understanding.
Who this format is for
This private tuition works well for:
- beginners who want personal guidance rather than a group setting
- fashion or textile students seeking practical skill development
- artists and designers exploring embroidery as part of their wider practice
- textile practitioners adding Lunéville embroidery to their skill set
No prior Lunéville experience is required, but this format suits people who are ready to concentrate and work intensively.
Location
The tuition takes place in central London (Pimlico / Victoria).
The space is provided by Altbes, a professional alterations and bespoke atelier.
I’m grateful to Zlata, the owner, for making this collaboration possible and for hosting the sessions in a working studio environment.
