Yesterday evening brought wonderful news—one of my most cherished works, Lady Slipper Pink, has found a new home. I couldn't be happier! This piece represents exceptional craftsmanship, infused with my memories, emotions, and creative experiments. I'm thrilled that a true hand embroidery connoisseur now owns it, and I’m sure it will bring them joy, just as I intended.

This moment also marks a new chapter — time to create a new Lady!

Demonstration at SoShiro

I could talk about embroidery for hours. You’d probably have to stop me, but I’d still be eager to share or show you something new.

When SoShiro invited me to do a demonstration, my answer was a big, enthusiastic YES!

It felt like the perfect opportunity to return to an idea I developed during my MA: showcasing pearl embroidery as more than just "beadwork" or a "forgotten regional craft." Instead, I wanted to highlight its potential to enrich both the fine art and fashion industries—modern industries, not just historicism.

For the demonstration, I brought a bag full of samples, along with the frame and pattern I designed specifically for the event (and possibly as an idea for a future offline workshop, but that’s a story for another time).

Oh, and by the way, my embroidered jacket is still on display at SoShiro, so you can see it if you visit!

I hope that everyone who stopped by got at least a glimpse of the beauty and potential of pearl embroidery, both in its traditional and creative forms. The experience gave me so much food for thought about my next steps and plans.

All in all, it was an amazing experience—and I’m definitely ready to do it again!

This piece is part of my series "Simple Words." Fully hand-embroidered, it combines a mix of techniques, experiments, and materials—some quite unconventional, like raffia.

I’m delighted that Hope is currently part of the HERE+NOW exhibition, organized by @teacoffeetequila at @oxmarketcontemporary. The exhibition showcases a variety of fine art, and I’m especially pleased that textiles and hand embroidery artworks (like mine) have been included.

HERE+NOW highlights what’s happening in fine art across Sussex, and I’m truly grateful to be part of such a vibrant community.

It’s also a personal milestone—my very first exhibition in Chichester!

Jewels of Winter

First things first: this project was never about marketing. It wasn’t a lead magnet or anything like that. I genuinely wanted to share some embroidery knowledge—a kind of Christmas gift. Yes, those who joined got access to videos and resources (and creating those took a lot of time and skill—thank goodness I know how to use Adobe!). But no, it wasn’t a pre-recorded course with 24/7 support.

I was surprised to get a few complaints about the format I chose. While I’m happy to help with the materials I provided, I can’t assist if the videos weren’t even watched.

Let’s be honest: this project offered free access to a wealth of information, complete with patterns designed exclusively for it. The only thing I asked in return was a little feedback!

So, this is my farewell to “free” offerings. On the bright side, seeing someone genuinely create and enjoy the process still makes me happy — it’s a reminder of why I do this.

About the finished ornaments...
Two of the Jewels of Winter ornaments are now available in my shop. I used only the finest materials — combining something old and something new — to make them truly special. They’re not your average Christmas decorations, and I understand why someone might say, “A bit too much for a Christmas ornament.”

But that’s exactly why I didn’t make them in bulk. These ornaments are designed as heirloom pieces, not mass-market products—something to cherish for years.

And for next Christmas… I already have at least five new designs in mind. I’ll be creating original snowflake ornaments — each one unique, intricate, and truly special.

Hummingbirds Spreading Wings

These little gems were made to be gifted and are waiting for you at @so.shiro—whether as a brooch or a vivid wall decoration.

What makes them special?
They’re not just decorative hummingbirds. They represent the Riccordia bicolor and Chestnut-bellied Hummingbird—two endangered species. Through these pieces, I’ve tried to capture their beauty, grace, and movement, but also their fragility.

The most common question I get is:
“How much time does it take to make one?”
I usually say about three working days, but truthfully, it’s even longer. I tried making these faster but couldn’t—and trust me, I gave it my all!

Please note, I don’t take requests for these pieces. So if you’re thinking, “Can you make me one before Christmas? My mom would love it!”—unfortunately, the answer is no. If you love them, head to @so.shiro or my online shop (I have one in stock).

Want something truly exclusive? In March, I plan to create three more hummingbirds with color palettes inspired by the endangered species list. Stay tuned!

Originally, I planned to make this part of my 12 Flowers project — a series of tutorials on creating couture embellishments that look stunning yet are surprisingly easy to make. But I’m still debating. Maybe you can help me decide? Would you like to learn how to make a brooch like this?

For now, it’s my tribute to red and black, drama, a touch of gothic, and yes, even Wednesday Addams. Something tells me these themes (okay, maybe not Wednesday herself) will become central to my artistic and craft practice next year.

But let’s get back to the Dahlia.
This brooch isn’t for everyone, and that’s entirely the point. It’s a bold, statement piece designed to stand out, not blend in. It doesn’t work with a look overloaded with jewelry or other accents. I believe it should shine alone.
And maybe that sounds a bit melancholic — but who says sparkle is only for brighter days?

As a Gift.
First, try Googling “dahlia brooch” and see what’s out there. Spoiler: It’s not like mine!
Second, take a closer look at those offerings — lots of nice, everyday textile flowers. But are they special?

Here’s why it’s special — and why it stings.

Techniques, Skills, and Challenges in This Piece:

Because it was.
Some exhibitions I believed valued high-level craftsmanship didn’t accept it.

And yes, that still stings. I won't pretend otherwise. It’s painful, and I think it’s okay to be honest about that.

I envisioned this piece as a cornerstone for a future project rooted in heritage. But today? I’m uncertain about where it fits or what comes next.

As for Gifts... Could Believe work as a gift?
Absolutely. It’s a niche, deeply special, and collectible piece. Perfect for someone who appreciates:

Content for Christmas Rush

Recently, I asked for your thoughts on content ideas for the first part of December. The most recent suggestion? Advent calendars!

But you know what? I’ve noticed everyone is doing them. So, no advent calendars for me 🙂

This year, I’ve participated in quite a few craft markets (and wow, do I have stories to share about that!). The most commercially popular items? Those I call "cute." But here’s the thing—I don’t do "cute." 🙂

Just recently, someone told me the price for my Jewels of Winter was "too high." Their reasoning? Christmas decorations shouldn’t cost that much. I was more than happy to recommend a few mass-market stores to them because, let’s be clear, I don’t create for the mass market 🙂

So, what’s my point?
You won’t see content here like "101 Ideas for Christmas Gifts Under £20."

Instead, I want to share some of the projects I’ve worked on this year that I’m truly proud of. Some of these might just be the perfect one-of-a-kind gifts for someone truly special—gifts that stand apart from the ordinary and aren’t designed for the mainstream.
